The Sacramento Sheriff is warning residents about a new phone scam impersonating the department.

Deputies have received multiple reports of people getting phone calls from someone claiming to be with the Sheriff's Department. The caller tells the victim that they have a warrant and then provides them with instructions on how to make a payment to avoid arrest.

The Sheriff's Department says their Warrants Bureau will never call demanding payment to clear a warrant.

Always be cautious with any phone call from an unknown source demanding money.
