EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. — While out on patrol Saturday, a Placerville CHP officer reported that his patrol vehicle spontaneously caught fire.

The officer was on Bass Lake Rd, south of Green Valley Rd, when he pulled over because of a strange smell coming from the engine compartment, CHP said.

Crews were able to put out the vehicle fire and the officer was not injured. At this point the department hasn't shared a reason why the fire would have started.

Thanks the the good outcome of a bad situation, CHP was able to joke about the situation. The department said on Facebook, "This wasn’t (the officer's) fault so we didn’t make him walk home."
