A double homicide investigation is underway in South Sacramento after two people were shot to death Thursday afternoon, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department.

The shooting occurred just after noon in the 5200 block of Fruitridge Road. Upon arrival, deputies located two male victims suffering from gunshot wounds who were both pronounced dead at the scene.

Both victims appear to be in their early 20's, according to the sheriff's department.

The initial investigation shows there may have been two to three suspects that fled in a light colored SUV. The Sacramento Police Department believes one of the suspects is a neighborhood at Belleview Avenue and Rotella Drive.

West Campus High School was under soft lockdown temporarily.

No other information has been released.
