(ABC NEWS) -- Two days after watching her husband die in hospice care, Norma Bauerschmidt, from Michigan, was diagnosed with uterine cancer at the age of 90.

But faced with surgery, radiation and chemotherapy, she decided to forgo treatment and instead spend her final days touring some of the most famous sites in the US in a motorhome with her son Tim, and daughter-in-law Ramie.

In August, a Facebook page set up to allow friends and family to follow Ms Bauerschmidt's travels celebrated one year on the road.

"It was one year ago that we left northeast Michigan on our epic journey, the breadth and depth of which we could never have imagined," a post read.

"We have driven the RV nearly 13,000 miles (20,900 kilometres) and slept in over 75 different locations in 32 states."

But today the page announced that Ms Bauerschmidt had died, aged 91.
