A pilot was killed in a small plane crash at the Oakdale airport Saturday morning.

The Federal Aviation Administration said it was an experimental airplane and it's unknown what caused the crash, but witness told police there might have been engine troubles.

Emergency crews got to the scene of the crash at 10:29 a.m. and discovered the small single engine plane was fully engulfed in flames, along with a pickup that collided with it. Police said the crash happened in front of a hanger on the north side of the runway.

The pilot was pronounced dead at the scene and has not yet been identified.

An investigation with the National Transportation Safety Board and the FAA will be conducted.
