Napa County sheriff's officials have confirmed the identity of a water tender driver killed in a crash on Monday as Garrett Paiz.

The 38-year-old Missouri native was a volunteer firefighter, but was not working as one at the time of the crash, officials said.

Officials report Paiz was driving a privately owned water tender when the truck reportedly rolled over near one of the wildfires.

Paiz is the first firefighter to die because of the wildfires that have killed at least 41 others and destroyed thousands of homes.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
