Poor visibility and heavy snowfall is keeping east and westbound lanes along Interstate 80 between Colfax and Stateline closed Monday.

High winds, heavy snowfall and poor visibility has plagued that particular stretch of road since at least Saturday when Caltrans crews made the decision to close it.

The closure was temporarily lifted Sunday afternoon for passenger motorists, but was again reinstated later that evening.

Dave Wood, Caltrans Donner Pass superintendent, took to Twitter in a series of video posts to remind drivers it isn’t just snowfall and high winds, but also the accumulation of snow drifts contributing to slick road conditions.

Wood said he and other Caltrans officials would provide a Monday afternoon update as conditions develop.

Caltrans also reports Highway 20 at Nevada City would remain closed as well due to the weather-related hazards.
