The Wildfire Outlook for May, June, July and August

Thanks to the snowpack, higher elevations in the Sierra fare best when it comes to the potential for significant wildfire development May - August

The National Interagency Fire Center has released the monthly outlook for significant wildfire potential for California.  

Fire Potential For May

There is a normal potential for wildfire development across the state for the month of May.

Fire Potential For June

There is above normal fire potential for the Northern Sacramento Valley. Downed trees from winter storms have caused a lot of dead fuel in these areas

There is also above normal fire potential for the Bay Area and the Mid-Coastal range, except Mendocino.  

Note: There is below normal fire potential for higher elevations because of a slowly melting snowpack.

Fire Potential For July

Similar conditions to June.

Fire Potential for August

Areas below 5,000 feet in elevation will have above normal fire potential for the month. Elevations above 6500 feet in the Nothern Sierra have a normal chance of wildfires.
