Search and rescue crews have found the wreckage of a plane believed to be that of one that went missing near South Lake Tahoe Sunday.

El Dorado County sheriff’s officials report the wreckage was discovered in a rugged area of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, southwest of Lake Schmidell -- a remote lake in Desolation Wilderness.

Officials also report crews discovered the body of a man outside the wreckage as well.

The identity of that man has not be released at this time.

The single-pilot Cessna was returning to Sacramento from Idaho when it was reported overdue. Its last known position was believed to be southwest of Lake Tahoe in a rural area of the Sierra Nevada.
