A mother and her boyfriend have been charged in the death of a Citrus Height 2-year-old.
Citrus Heights police arrested Rebecca Thomas and Taylor Montgomery-Gutzman on Wednesday and booked the two into the Sacramento County Jail on murder charges.
On October 13, officers were called to a report of a two-year-old not breathing at a home on Auburn Boulevard near Cedar Drive at 5:30 p.m. The child received medical aid from police until em emergency personnel arrived, then the child was taken to a nearby hospital and was pronounced deceased.
Police said after a thorough investigation, numerous interviews, the collection and examination of evidence, it was determined the child did not die of natural causes. Detectives were led to have probable cause to believe the mother and her live-in boyfriend were responsible for the child's death.
An ongoing investigation will be forward to the Sacramento County District Attorney's Office. No further details have been relesed.
