An investigation is underway in Sacramento County after a man died from being stabbed in the street.

The Sacramento Police Department received a call on Oct. 23 at approximately 5:25 a.m. responding to a call about a man who had been stabbed in the area of Dixieanne Avenue and Empress Street

When officers arrived they found the man in the street and began life saving procedures until medical personnel arrived. Sacramento Fire Department personnel then transported the victim to the hospital where he eventually died due to the severity of his wounds.

In the initial investigation, officers detained a suspect of interest and as the investigation continued it was found out that the incident started over an argument escalating into a physical altercation leading to the stabbing. It's believed the argument was between to men who knew each other.

The department is not looking for any additional suspects at this time and the identity of the victim will be released by the Sacramento Coroner's Office once next of kin is notified.
