Hundreds of rabbits taken from Folsom home to be returned to owners

The owners secured a new housing facility that meets all minimum standards for housing, care and transportation for rabbits according to USDA Regulations and the Animal Welfare Act.

Nearly 300 rabbits were taken from a home in Folsom last month after officers noticed them while investigating an unrelated incident.

286 rabbits were brought to the Sacramento SPCA while officers investigated the living conditions of each animal taken from a home in the 200 block of Pine Grove Way.

According to Animal Control, officers informed the owners that laws only allow them to have at most 2.

There aren't many details about the condition the animals were living in, but Folsom Police did say they appeared to be "unsanitary."

Weeks later, the Folsom Animal Control and the rabbit's owners were able to come to an agreement about the animals.

The owners secured a new housing facility that meets all minimum standards for housing, care and transportation for rabbits according to USDA Regulations and the Animal Welfare Act.

At least 85 of the 286 rabbits will be surrendered to the shelter, the remaining rabbits will be returned to the owners.

The new facility has been inspected by animal control. A provision has been put into place stating the facility will be inspected at any time with a 24-hour notice for three years.
