Over the holiday weekend, we've been eating good food and shopping for amazing deals. But Tuesday is different — instead of deals and meals, it's a day to give back.

It's Giving Tuesday.

Giving Tuesday was started in 2012 by the 92nd Street Y, a multifaceted cultural institution in New York City, and the U.N. Foundation. The goal is to encourage philanthropy and charitable giving on social media.

The event even broke a Guinness World Record in 2016 as people around the world gave $168 million in charitable donations.

It was the most amount of money donated to charity online in 24 hours.

So if you're interested in helping, here's how you can start. Go to this website (HERE) and you can learn about hte organizations near you that are taking part.

Facebook is also partnering with Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to match up to $2 million in donations made on #GivingTuesday through Facebook's charitable giving tools.
