STOCKTON — Stockton police responded to three separate calls for shootings Wednesday night.

The first call came around 9:30 p.m. when officers were called to the 1000 block of South Wilson Way for a report of a person shot. Upon arrival, officers found a man suffering from a gunshot wound as well as detained a possible suspect. The victim was transported to a hospital with serious injuries while Mario Cortes, 37, was arrested and charged with attempted murder.

The second call happened just before midnight, when officers were called to the 3200 block of Pacific Avenue where a woman was mugged and shot. She was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Police believe three men — two black and one white — were involved.

The last call came just after midnight, along the 400 block of North Wilson Way, when a man was hit by a stray bullet. He ran from the area and called police, who helped transport him to an area hospital. There is no suspect information in regards to this shooting.
