A 45-year-old man has pleaded guilty to attacking a national park ranger with a lethal firefighting tool.
The Sacramento Bee reports (http://bit.ly/2dKBznE ) that Nicholas Coberley on Tuesday admitted to swinging the tool, called a Pulaski, at the head of a ranger at Lassen Volcanic National Park while the ranger was driving.
According to court documents, the ranger approached Coberley on June 20 after the man was acting intoxicated and erratically. The ranger was taking Coberley to meet law enforcement officials when Coberley climbed onto the cab and beat the truck's roof and beat it with a number of sharp tools, ultimately shattering the windshield as the ranger drove.
Sentencing is set for Jan. 17. Prosecutors will ask for a sentence of two years and three months in prison.
