A man, carrying an assault weapon and wearing body armor, was shot by Vallejo police after he attempted to ambush two officers inside a Starbucks.

According to a press release from the Vallejo Police Department, just before 9 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 16, an adult, black male walked into the Starbucks at 199 Lincoln Road and pointed an assault weapon at two officers. When it appeared the gun malfunctioned, the two officers drew their weapons as the suspect fled on foot.

Police eventually caught up with the suspect, fired several shots, and struck the man three times. After being taken into custody, an additional weapon was found, including body amour. The suspect is currently being treated at an area hospital for life-threatening injuries.

The two officers involved were not injured. No other information on the suspect has been provided.
