Mandatory evacuations ordered for residents near Ferguson Fire

According to the latest numbers from CalFire, the Ferguson Fire, which started on July 13, has consumed nearly 25,000 acres of land and is only 7 percent contained.

Mandatory evacuations have been issued as firefighters continue to battle the Ferguson Fire near Yosemite.

According to the latest numbers from CalFire, the Ferguson Fire, which started on July 13, has consumed nearly 25,000 acres of land and is only 7 percent contained.

Mandatory evacuation orders have been issued for the following areas:

  • Old El Portal
  • Rancheria Flat – Government Housing
  • Foresta
  • Yosemite View Lodge

In addition to the evacuations, State Highway 140 west to Mariposa also remains closed. Residents are asked to use SH140 east through Yosemite as an exit route.

Firefighter Braden Varney, 36 was on July 14 when his bulldozer rolled over, authorities said. CalFire reports two other firefighters have been injured fighting the fire. There have been no reported civilian injuries or fatalities.

The Ferguson Fire is now under unified command with the US Forest Service, CalFire and the Mariposa County Sheriff’s Office.
