Sharkey -- who, along with her friend Bianca Gates, started the fashionable slipper company two years ago -- said she first learned of Markle's love of Birdies when she posted a photo of herself in them on Instagram.
"All of a sudden my phone started blowing up and people started texting me, 'have you seen Meghan Markle? She looks so pretty in your slippers,'" Sharkey told ABC10. "So it was just so fun to see that, and that was quite a while ago long before he was even dating Prince Harry."
Sharkey said Markle's posts have helped boost their business.
"We get people asking every day asking,' I just want to check that these are the slippers Meghan was wearing?'" she said.
They also saw sales go up following the announcement of the couple's engagement on Monday.
"We felt so lucky to have this important engagement announcement of like our biggest celeb fan, Meghan Markle, having been coincidentally on Cyber Monday," she explained. "So, we feel like the stars are aligned."
Sharkey said Markle has five or six pairs of Birdies, but is most often wearing the classic "Black Bird" style.
The slippers cost $150 dollars a pair and are sold online and at their newly opened brick-and-mortar store in San Francisco.
