'Pineapple Express' storm leaves flooding, toppled trees in Northern California

Some of our area saw flooding and toppled trees as part of the aftermath of the ‘Pineapple Express’ storm that made its way through Northern California.

Drivers passing through the Deer Creek area Saturday morning were met with flooded roads as they passed Scott Road in Sloughhouse.

In Fair Oaks, crews were called to clear the road after a tree toppled over in front of the Fair Oaks Cemetery. Part of Olive Street was blocked as Sacramento County’s Trees and Landscape Department cleaned up the wood and brush on the street.

“We see this all the time,” said Jeremy Tupper, one of the county’s tree workers. “Especially when the ground gets saturated, heavy trees just start to topple over,” Tupper explained.

As crews finished up clearing the area, they were called to assist with another downed tree that was blocking part of Waldon Street in Fair Oaks.

“I was going to mow my lawn and I heard this tree cracking,” said Vern Hunter, who lives next to the home where the tree fell. "So, I moved out of the way and then it just fell. It fell slowly and luckily my kids weren't underneath there."
