The Sacramento Police Department says they are investigating a homicide after a man's body was found lying on a levee Sunday.

At approximately 7:20 a.m., Sacramento Police Department officers were called to area of Norwood Avenue and Fairbanks Avenue regarding a citizen who found a male lying on the levee, west of the intersection, police said.

Upon arrival, officers located a male adult with an apparent gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said.

No other details have been released at this time. The investigation into the homicide is ongoing.
