The Sacramento Regional Transit District has confirmed that they were victims of a cyber ransom attack.

The damage to their network is described as "limited" and no personal data has been compromised.

"This was only an attack on our business operations in an effort to extort money," said SacRT in released statement on Facebook. "SacRT’s IT team is working to restore the network, but the website will remain off-line until the entire system has been scrubbed for malware."

Their IT team is working on the website and verifying services that are safe to bring back online.

There will be no access to online accounts and credit card transactions are unavailable at this time, but connect cards will continue to function on the system.

Transportation, light rail and bus operations, have not been affected but passengers should be aware of not being able to access their schedule information until the website is online.
