Two suspects have been arrested in connection to a man who was found dead lying in the front yard of a home, which prompted a homicide investigation in Sacramento.

Calls to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department of the macabre discovery started coming in just before 7:30 a.m. Sunday, deputies said. Those calls to the department indicated the man was lying in the front yard of a home in the 2200 block of Edison Avenue.

Sheriff’s deputies responded to the area several hours earlier around 2:30 a.m. connected to a report of gunshots being heard, deputies said. At that time, deputies were unable to locate evidence of anyone being shot and began an investigation.

The victim has been identified as a 39-year-old Sacramento man, but his identity in this case will be made available by the Sacramento County Coroner’s office, after notification has been made to his next of kin.

On Monday, during the ongoing investigation, deputies arrested two 22-year-old men who have been identified as Corey Crawley and Elijah Varnado.

Crawley was arrested on murder charges and Varnado was arrested for being an accessory after the fact and violation of his probation.

Both men are currently in custody at the Sacramento County main Jail and are ineligible for bail.
