Crews have closed SR-99 between Walnut Avenue and Twin Cities Road after a big rig overturned Monday.

The truck was carrying 40,000 pounds of boulders when it struck a Cal Trans Changeable Message Sign (CMS) board, causing it to overturn just before 1:15 p.m.

The boulders spilled out onto the freeway.

The driver was not injured.

Crews were forced to close the freeway while cleaning up the boulders. The roadway is estimated to reopen around 5 p.m.

Drivers are encouraged to take I-5 northbound to get to the great Sacramento area.
