Sacramento County coroner's officials released the name of the man shot during a Friday afternoon California Highway Patrol officer-involved shooting near Madison Avenue.
Jason King, a 38-year-old Rancho Cordova resident, was shot around 1:20 p.m. on Friday near Date Avenue and Tyler Street, after, officials say, he raised a gun towards two CHP officers.
According to Sheriff Sergeant Tony Turnbull, CHP officer was driving when he noticed King walking with a gun in his hand. The officer told the him to drop gun, but King refused, Turnbull said. Another officer arrived to the scene a short time later. Turnbull said the King pointed a gun at the officers who then fired their weapons.
King was transported to the hospital where he later died.
Neither of the two officers involved, who were identified as 20-year and 8-year veterans, were injured during the shooting. Both officers were put on paid administrative leave, according to the CHP.
