Deputies: Sheldon High School student stabbed in school bathroom

The student was taken to a local area hospital for treatment and is expected to be okay.

Sheldon High School was placed on lockdown after a student was stabbed in a bathroom Monday afternoon.

The Sacramento County Sheriff's Department says the 16-year-old student showed up at a nearby home bleeding from a stab wound just after 1:30 p.m.

The school's deputy sheriff school resource officer went to the home to investigate.

According to deputies, the student was stabbed in a school bathroom. The school was placed on lockdown while detectives and deputies investigated on campus, that lockdown has since been lifted.

The student was taken to a local area hospital for treatment and is expected to be okay.

Deputies did detain a student for questioning, that student is considered a person of interest.

School officials released the following statement to parents following the altercation:

Dear Parents and Guardians in the Sheldon/TR Smedberg Region,

Below is an update regarding today's lockdown at Sheldon High School:

Today at approximately 1:40 p.m., as a precaution, local law enforcement ordered a lockdown at Sheldon High School after receiving a report from school officials that a student had been stabbed with a knife.

Elk Grove Unified School District officers and local law enforcement responded immediately and following emergency protocols, helped to secure the school and directed Sheldon to lockdown. Staff and students followed the emergency lockdown procedures and responded effectively and efficiently. All students are safe. At approximately 2:53 p.m., local law enforcement lifted the lockdown after an all clear was given.

The victim had left the school’s campus after being stabbed and called 911 from home. The victim was immediately cared for and transported to an area hospital and met by parents. The student is reported to be speaking and responsive. Sheldon remained in lockdown until law enforcement identified possible assailant and witnesses. A student has been detained and is being questioned by law enforcement.
