Sacramento Mayor Darrell Steinberg is calling for licensed mental health professionals and experts to volunteer assisting area neighborhoods affected by violence.

A 4:30 p.m. press conference was held at Luther Burbank High School, where Steinberg was joined by the community, faith leaders and Sacramento City Council members. The list of people expected to speak include Steinberg, Councilman Larry Carr, Mai Vang (board member of the Sac Unified School District), Councilman Rick Jennings and more.

The goal is for these professionals to help navigate individuals and organizations in the black community with their pain, health and healing.

“Exposure to violence, systemic poverty, domestic violence – these issues have profound impacts on people living in communities, especially kids,” Steinberg said.
