Developers are working to turn Sacramento’s R Street into a thriving downtown neighborhood.

R Street is located along the historic corridor. Once a thriving warehouse district, is turning into a thriving neighborhood, said Ali Youssefl, with CFY Development.

“I don’t think there’s a neighborhood in downtown Sacramento that has more character and more unique buildings than this one,” Youseffl said.

The 27-block corridor is lined with former industrial warehouses that can be turned into working businesses, homes, and apartments, Youseffl said.

Over the past five years, developers like CFY have started renovating buildings in the area.

“Probably almost $100 million of investment in this neighborhood and there’s a lot more that’s going to come too,” Youseffl said.

One of the newest developments coming to R Street is Raley’s owned grocery store called Market 5 One Five.

The building was a former furniture store and is being turned into a grocery store, offices, and retail space.

“There’s a lot of new businesses coming to R Street, it’s kind of becoming a hub and a destination,” said Market 5 One Five General Manager Levi Wango.

The project should be complete by Spring 2017.
