Last week, a study found Highway 99 to be the most dangerous road in the United States. The road stretches across more than 400 miles and runs through Sacramento, Stockton and Modesto.

But there are much shorter roads and intersections that are becoming more problematic than others in Sacramento and the surrounding cities.

A woman is in critical condition after being hit by a passing vehicle Friday on West Capitol Avenue. There's been an increase in fatal accidents in West Sacramento, according to West Sacramento Police officials.

Authorities said West Capitol Avenue is a problem area up and down the road.

Elk Grove Police Department updates their collision reports every month. The data for September doesn't specify whether or not an accident was fatal, but does show where the collision occurred.

The Elk Grove Blvd and Laguna Springs Dr. intersection has the highest number of collisions in 2016 so far with 14 reported accidents. The Calvine Road and Elk Grove-Florin Road intersection is a close second with 13 collisions this year up to date.

Stockton Police Department spokesperson, Joseph Silva, said he sees a higher number of traffic accidents on N. Pershing and Alpine avenues, an intersection close to the University of Pacific.

"People speed or run the stoplights," Silva said.

Silva said that there's more officers in the area to help control traffic and also said it helps the intersection is in close proximity to the University of Pacific Police Department.
