The Islamic Center of Stockton is the latest California mosque to receive a hate letter pushing for genocide of all Muslims.
"It was pretty horrifying,” said Nadeem Khan, the Secretary at the Islamic Center of Stockton.
Khan said he found the letter in the mail box over the weekend.
The letter reads in part: “To children of Satan, You Muslims are vile and filthy people… You are evil. You worship the devil. But your day of reckoning has arrived. There’s a new sheriff in town – President Donald Trump.”
"Someone had the nerve to sit down and write stuff like this. It's not patriotic at all,” Khan said.
But since word spread about the letter, mosque members said they’ve been getting nothing but messages of support.
"It just goes to show that we can all stand together. No matter what race, religion or color you may be, we all come for one,” Khan said.
Mayor-elect Michael Tubbs also reached out to the mosque. On Friday, he will be speaking to members.
"Stockton would not be Stockton without the Muslim community, who are our friends, our neighbors, doctors and dentist, teachers and social workers, and as people of faith we are going to rally around them and show them the love that's necessary in these hard national times,” Tubbs said.
The letter appears to be the same handwritten photocopied letter that was sent to mosques in Los Angeles, Fresno and San Jose. Khan said this has some members concerned about their safety.
"We just want to be able to move forward and just put this behind us and hopefully we can build better relations with those who have these types of concerns,” he said.
Mosque leaders turned the letter over to law enforcement for further investigation.
