Police are investigating after the Salvation Army says someone broke into one of their vehicles and stole five kettles holding around $1,000.
The kettles were taken when the Salvation Army employee driving the vehicle stopped at a Safeway in Tracy. The suspect broke the passenger side windows and took off with the five kettles.
“This was disappointing, we do so much in our community and with so little, then our donations got stolen,” said Capt. Doug Hanson, Salvation Army Stockton Corps officer. “We did a safe estimation of the possible cash donation in those kettles, and we believe it was around $1,000 lost.”
The kettle money helps support holiday programs and year-long services like the food assistance program.
