Vallejo City Officials: Water is safe to drink, should be ran for 5-10 minutes before use

Despite problems with the Swanzy Reservoir, Vallejo City Officials say the water is safe to drink, but should be ran for 5-10 minutes before the first use.

The Swanzy Reservoir began experiencing issues when a sensor in the closed system provided a false read, which led to sediment being carried into water lines and pushed out into part of the system.

Though the water may contain debris or be discolored, city officials say it is safe to drink. However, home impacted should run cold water for 5 to 10 minutes. If sediment or dirt appears after 10 minutes, call the Water Department after-hours customer line at (707) 648-4313.

City officials say the issue will affect around 1000 homes along Lemon Street to Highway 780 to Laurel Street and South to Pueblo Way, and homes west to Porter Street and north back to Lemon Street.
