A West Sacramento Police officer is unhurt after a wanted felon pointed a loaded handgun at him Friday afternoon.

Police said an officer stopped 23-year-old Brian Salazar for a traffic violation in West Sacramento when Salazar threatened the officer with the gun and sped off. The suspect led officers on a 30-second pursuit into Sacramento, crashing near I and 4th Streets and then fleeing on foot around 12:30 p.m.

Multiple agencies responded to the scene and locked down the area for about an hour while detectives searched for Salazar. Several K-9 units discovered Salazar hiding in a nearby parking garage in Old Sacramento. He surrendered to officers peacefully and was taken into custody by the Sacramento Police Department.

Salazar was wanted on prior felony charges.

Traffic has since been reopened in the area.
