A Tacoma Washington Police Officer died after being shot several times Wednesday night after responding to a domestic disturbance call.

The suspect barricaded himself inside a home with a rifle near East E Street and E. 52nd Street.

The officer responded to the call around 4 p.m. when the shooting took place, according to a police spokesperson. The officer was taken to the hospital where he later died.

There was a procession leaving the hospital to the medical examiner's office Wednesday night.

A number of law enforcement officers stood in silence to show their support outside of the hospital.

Police were able to get adults and children out of the home following the shooting.

Authorities do not believe anyone besides the suspect is still inside.
