After America's biggest mall announced its decision to close on Thanksgiving day and re-open Black Friday morning, are other cities beginning to follow their lead.
Though individual stores in Mall of America have the option of staying open, many are wondering if Mall of America's action will affect local mall decisions.
For Sacramento, malls are all handling Thanksgiving day in a different manner.
Here are the Thanksgiving hours at this moment:
The Folsom Premium Outlets will be open from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m., then 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Black Friday.
"As for the four hour break, this is a new thing." said Victoria Ricarte, Guest Service Representative of the Folsom outlets.
In previous years they were open much longer and Ricarte doesn't know why they're changing the hours to the four hour window between the days, but they will be open on Thanksgiving.
Arden Fair Mall will be open 6 p.m. to midnight, then 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. for Black Friday.
Jamie Donley, the Senior Marketing Manager of Arden Mall, is in the process of coordinating and finalizing their plan with a month left.
"Some anchors and retailers will have varied hours," Donley said. "Some will stay open and some will be closed, but that could change."
The list of places opting to close won't be released until mid-November, but Nordstrom is the one store Donley knows that has usually remained closed on Thanksgiving.
The Sunrise Mall typically bases its hours around the anchor stores as well as on historic shopping patterns according to Susie Rodgers, the Assistant General Manager, but they're still figuring out the hours.
"We have not received notice from any of our retailers about Thanksgiving hours," Rodgers said. "We are still awaiting on final holiday hours."
Places like Westfield Galleria Mall at Roseville and The Promenade have yet to respond.
There are also specific retailers who have opted to close on Thanksgiving to allow employees time to spend with their families, for the full list click here.
