The Placer County Sheriff's Office arrested Rance Shephard, 34, for assault with a deadly weapon and other unknown charges after a stand off that lasted eight hours on Wednesday.

The stand off with Shephard ended at approximately 10:55 p.m.

Earlier today, the Sheriff's Office said they were investigating an ongoing incident involving an "angry" man who was shooting a gun in the direction of a law enforcement helicopter on Michigan Bluff Road.

At approximately 2 p.m., independent work crews doing tree service near the man’s home in an incorporated area noticed he was acting suspicious around his home. The man then took out a gun and shot it in the air. The work crew then called the police, according to the Placer County Sheriff’s Office.

At 3 p.m., sheriffs said they arrived with a helicopter and the man proceeded to shoot at the helicopter from his home at least four times. Lt. Troy Sanders of the Sheriff's Office said it was an active situation as they are going to try to negotiate with the man.

Authorities set a command post at Michigan Bluff Road and Chicken Hawk Road. They were working to create a "safety net" in the neighborhood before they started the negotiations with the man to make sure the area is secure.
