A man has been arrested Tuesday following a shooting in Sacramento, according to the Sacramento Police Department.

On Monday at approximately 4 p.m., the Sheriff’s Communication Center received reports regarding the sounds of gunshots in the 4500 block of Altadena Way in Sacramento. Upon arrival, deputies located a vehicle which crashed through a fence and into a backyard. 

Deputies discovered a 26-year-old male driver inside the vehicle, who was suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. Sacramento Metro Fire Department responded and transported the victim to a local hospital. The victim remains in critical condition.

John Charleston, 25, of Sacramento, was arrested Tuesday for assault with a deadly weapon. He was booked at the Sacramento County Main Jail and is being held on $75,000 bail. He is scheduled to be arraigned in Sacramento Superior Court on Thursday.

Detectives also learned the shooting was precipitated by a marijuana deal that went bad. Authorities believe there were several other subjects present during the incident and are investigating further.
