A 22-year-old El Dorado man was found guilty of sex crimes against five different children under the age of 14 Wednesday.

Robert Lee Edmonds was found guilty of 16 felony charges, including providing controlled substances to a minor, possession of child pornography, and criminal threats.

Edmonds committed his crimes over a 2-year period, starting in 2014.

According to the El Dorado Sheriff's Department, Edmonds would befriend his intended victims and then use their relationship to take advantage of them sexually.

Edmonds was arrested in 2016 and found guilty by a jury after a 3-week trial.

"Sexual assault against children has become an all too common crime," said District Attorney Vern Pierson. "In El Dorado County, we continue to aggressively pursue these cases and seek the maximum punishment under the law against these predators, seeking justice on behalf of these most vulnerable victims."

Edmonds will be sentenced on January 22, 2018. He faces a maximum sentence of 106 years to life in prison.
