Suspect fatally shot after vehicle pursuit in Auburn

The chase started in Nevada County as the driver led authorities through the Auburn area. At one point during the pursuit, the suspect collided with a sheriff's patrol unit and intentionally swerved into the path of a pursuing sheriff's patrol unit, according to the sheriff's office.

A Chico man was shot and killed after a vehicle pursuit ended in Foresthill Friday evening, according to the Placer County Sheriff's Office.

The chase started in Nevada County as 49-year-old Lockwood Adrian Gibson led authorities through the Auburn area. At one point during the pursuit, Gibson hit a sheriff’s patrol unit and intentionally swerved into the path of a pursuing patrol unit, according to the sheriff’s office.

The pursuit was then taken over by the California Highway Patrol and continued into Foresthill. Gibson's car was later forced off the road by authorities on Foresthill Road, ending the pursuit.

CHP officers were then forced to fatally shoot Gibson, the sheriff’s office said.

Police have not said what started the vehicle pursuit. The investigation into the officer-involved shooting is ongoing.
