Kings game was delayed amid protests outside Golden 1 Center, refunds expected

The Sacramento Kings were scheduled to play the Atlanta Hawks at 7 p.m., but the game was delayed until 7:23 due to the protesters blocking the entrances of the arena.

Protesters were marching throughout downtown Sacramento Thursday in response to the fatal shooting of 22-year-old Stephon Clark, who was shot and killed by two Sacramento police officers.

The march started at Sacramento City Hall and continued onto nearby I-5, disrupting rush hour traffic. The protesters then made their way to the Golden 1 Center.

The Sacramento Kings were scheduled to play the Atlanta Hawks at 7 p.m., but the game was delayed until 7:23 due to the protesters blocking the entrances of the arena.

There were fans with tickets to the game, but were not allowed in the arena because eof the blockage.

The Kings released two statements below regarding Thursday night's game:

"Tonight's game began with a delay. Due to law enforcement being unable to ensure ticketed fans could safely enter the arena, the arena remains closed and we ask fans outside to travel home. We’ will issue further information soon regarding a refund."

In the coming days, guests who purchased tickets for tonight’s game directly through the Sacramento Kings or Ticketmaster will receive detailed instructions to facilitate a full refund.
