The vacant WBC Continental Americas Junior Lightweight Title belt is on the line Friday and Stockton's Andy Vences hopes to claim it.

""I worked my whole life for this opportunity. I'm not going to throw this opportunity to waste," Vences said.

The 16-0 super featherweight is scheduled to fight Casey Ramos (23-0) at the Treasure Island Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas.

Vences can't help but think about the long journey to get to this point. He would get off his graveyard security shift, sleep for a few hours, then drive to Stockton to train. All of the training is starting to pay off.

"I never give up," Vences said. "Any situation I've been put in in life whether it's financially or situational circumstances in my life, I notice that I've been able to stick to it and been able to push through. Hard times don't last, they're only temporary."

Vences trains out of Los Gallos Boxing Gym in Stockton.
