Driver detained after high-speed chase near Placerville, Highway 50 open | Updates

PLACERVILLE, Calif. — Highway 50 is now open after being closed Monday morning in both directions near Camino in El Dorado County on Monday morning, according to California Highway Patrol.

The shutdown started as a chase in Solano County and police are still in the area, according to CHP.

A spokesperson from CHP's Placerville section told ABC10 that a high-speed chase occurred near Camino and Snows Road.

Snows Road is closed off near Camino Union Elementary School. The person who was driving the vehicle was in their car and talking with El Dorado County Sheriff's deputies from a distance around 9:40 a.m.

Deputies were in an armored vehicle and told the person to exit the car, but the driver was not getting out, according to a sergeant at the scene.

El Dorado County Sheriff's deputies approached the vehicle just before 10:30 a.m. they smashed a window and removed the person from their vehicle.

The identity of the person is not known at this time.
