SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Hot, daytime temperatures are in the forecast this week in Northern California.
A Heat Advisory is in effect Tuesday through 10 p.m. Wednesday. Valley spots could reach a daytime high between 100° to 109° this afternoon.
Areas in the foothills could reach high temperatures ranging from 95° to 103°. Overnight low temperatures will also be running on the milder side. Lows will be approximately 5 - 10° warmer than average.
The fire danger increases with the hot temperatures, increasing wind speeds on Wednesday. There is also a threat of dry lightning with a chance of thunderstorms across parts of the San Joaquin Valley and areas along Highway 50 in the Sierra on Wednesday. The threat of thunderstorms continues for the west slope of the Sierra on Thursday.
Heat exhaustion vs. heat stroke
Remember to drink plenty of fluids, wear light and loose clothing and stay in the air conditioning whenever possible. If you are outside, try to stay out of direct sunlight and take breaks in shaded locations. Find more warning signs of heat-related illness from the CDC.
Warning signs for heat exhaustion include the following:
- Dizziness
- Heavy sweating
- Nausea
The symptoms of heat stroke are as follows:
- High body temperature
- Absence of sweating
- Difficulty breathing
