Spring Break on a Tank: Take a Safari

A lot of people have dreamed about taking a trip on an African safari. Though would you believe that there is a place close that offers one? If you head two hours west of downtown Sacramento, you will find Safari West in Santa Rosa.

While you may be thinking this is just a zoo or a drive through park, it's not. The Safari West Park is a wildlife preserve that houses over 900 animals of 90 different species. On this 400 acre preserve, you can see many animals ranging from lions to giraffes, to antelopes and wildebeests!

Though rather from your traditional ways of seeing animals behind a pane of glass, here you can get up close and personal just like a trip through the African Savanna. Through their safari adventures, you will have the chance to observe the stunningly colorful, exotic birds in their open-air aviary along with all the other animals in their habitats!

If that isn't enough excitement for you, how about getting close to a huge cat? Yes, Safari West even gives you a chance to get up close and personal with cheetahs, who are of one the most well known hunters in the animal kingdom.

Now through August, safaris are offered five times a day, (9 a.m., 10 a.m., 1 p.m., 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.) and are priced anywhere between $45-$88 for kids under 17 and $83-$93 for adults depending on the day. Senior tickets are between $80- $88.

Though if you feel like you and the family want to spend more time with the animals, you can even spend the night at the preserve! With luxury tents that include plush beds, hot showers and unique furniture, the fun experience allows you to enjoy something unlike anything else! The preserve does inform you that you will be surrounded by conditions that are very close to a natural habitat that is seen in Africa. Meaning, you will probably hear the sounds of the animals during their nighttime activities.
