Teacher of the Month November 2013 - Glen Cain

PLACERVILLE, CA - For Gold Trail School Performing Arts Teacher Glen Cain, the sound of success is evident with every note his students hit.

"The class I am teaching right now is my favorite because they are all in different stages and doing different things," Cain explained.

Cain has been teaching music for more than three decades in Placerville. He said his passion for music started at the age of 10 in public school. When he graduated college, Cain headed back to school.

"I wanted to come back and work in the public school with kids," Cain said. "Give kids the same opportunity that I got."

Students said Cain's teaching has helped them excel, and not just in his class.

"Every since I have been playing music, I have been getting higher grades and doing better in other things outside school," student Connor O'Shea said.

Cain's music is not only a hit among his students; he's also receiving statewide praise. His concert and jazz bands won numerous competitions. His students have also performed at Disneyland, Pier 39 and the state Capitol.

He may soon have another award on his resume, a Grammy.

"We were narrowed down to the top 25, so we are one of the semifinalists now," Cain said. "And that's just a cool thing to be recognized nationally for a little school here."
