More than 100 kids turned out for the annual Tim Brown Mentor Mini Football Camp at the California Highway Patrol Academy Center in West Sacramento on Friday.
Brown is a former Oakland Raider who started the camp in 1999 and has reached thousands of children in the years following. He focuses on helping fatherless children and said he wants to connect kids with positive role models.
"For me growing up, I had a lot of positive role models," Brown said. "I realize today it's a little different. I just want to be somebody positive in these kid's lives."
Several officers with CHP were also helped coach the camp, which has been held at the CHP Academy for the past decade.
One little football player at the camp said this "the best day of his year."
