Recovery efforts underway after body of man who fell into water treatment conduit recovered

The El Dorado Irrigation District says the emergency was sent out after they believe a man entered the Camino Conduit pipe which carries raw water from Jenkinson Lake to a treatment plant in Pollock Pines.

Water systems in El Dorado County were temporarily slowed down Monday and Tuesday after a missing man was reported to have fallen in conduit pipe, according to county officials.

The missing man's body, identified as 34-year-old Tory Robert Mayes of Pollock Pines, was located and recovered after 8 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 23, from the raw water conduit between Jenkinson Lake and EID’s water treatment plant in Pollock Pines., sheriff's officials said.

The El Dorado Irrigation District will continue it's regular water treatment operations while recovery efforts continue, officials said.

District staff began to reduce flows while emergency responders searched for the missing man. The reduction in flows and subsequent request for conservation from customers was to manage health and safety flows to EID customers and maintain the integrity of the system.

EID, The El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office and emergency responders worked into the night before the rescue mission transitioned to a recovery effort. EID is asking that conservation continue until 5 p.m. at which time normal water operations will resume.

The emergency was sent out after Mayes apparently fell into the Camino Conduit pipe which carries raw water from Jenkinson Lake to a treatment plant in Pollock Pines.
