A family is seeking answers after an elderly man was found dead in Rio Linda.
Richard Vaiza was homeless but his family said it was a choice and he was very loved.
The Sacramento County Sheriff's Office is investigating after Vaiza was found with severe trauma to his body.
"We came out that night looking for him, because the police hadn't contacted us yet to say they had found him and we came out and nobody was out here," said Vaiza's niece, Monica Vaiza Sobala.
Vaiza was known as "Pops".
A memorial has been set up by his favorite spot at Roy Hayer Park.
The family has been putting up flyers around the area where Vaiza's body was found.
"I know he wasn't just special to us," Sobala said. "He was special to other people to and that makes my heart happy and that's why I hope someone will come forward."
