How coming home to Sacramento airport just became easier for international travelers

Do you fly in and out of Sacramento International when you're taking a trip overseas? They're now allowing travelers to use the Global Entry Trusted Traveler Program.

Do you fly in and out of Sacramento International when you're taking a trip overseas? Well, if you do, the airport says they've made a big upgrade that could save you a lot of time when you're traveling.

They're now allowing travelers to use the Global Entry Trusted Traveler Program.

"You put your hands on a screen, it takes a picture, you get a receipt and then you walk out of the door with your bags,” said Laurie Slothower, Sacramento International Public Information Officer.

However, with only two international flights in and out of Sacramento, this is only going to really effect a handful of people. Slothower said this is only the beginning.

"This is part of our infrastructure to set up for more international flights because it really is a case of if you build it, they will come,” Slothower said.

Officials say the process to sign up is easy, but first, you're going to have to take an international flight and fly back into Sacramento International.

Those who fly often and fly internationally say it’s reason to celebrate.

"Whenever I go into the San Diego airport, they have those kiosks and it makes it a lot easier to get through," Jody McAfee from Yuba City said.

McAfee went on to say that it takes an hour and a half to get through customs without Global Entry. With Global Entry, she says, "Oh it’s much quicker. 10 to 15 minutes. 20 at the most. Big difference."

Brian Ray says he flies internationally a couple times a year and really likes the idea.

"It saves so much time,” he said. “It's less pressure. You can plan ahead when you're landing on the ground and just move on. There's nothing more annoying than walking off of that plane and looking at this giant line of everybody there and then they say, you get to walk up here."

And landing - without much of a wait after a flight that went on for hours - is very good news if you're one of those flyers.
