Fatal officer-involved shooting reported in Stanislaus County

The Ceres police officers had been pursuing a driver in unincorporated Stanislaus County, culminating in a standoff with the suspect near Imperial Avenue and Ustick Road just after 1 a.m. Sunday.

A multi-agency investigation is underway following a fatal officer-involved shooting in Modesto early Sunday morning.

The Ceres police officers had been pursuing a driver in unincorporated Stanislaus County, culminating in a standoff with the suspect near Imperial Avenue and Ustick Road just after 1 a.m. Sunday.

At about 1:10 a.m., the officers reported they had been involved in a shooting in which the driver of the suspect car had been struck by their gunfire.

The suspect was taken to an emergency room where he later died, according to Stanislaus County sheriff’s officials.

The officers involved in the shooting were not injured, sheriff’s officials report.

Detectives are now at the preliminary stages of their investigation, interviewing witnesses.

The officers have been placed on administrative leave per department policy. The last officer-involved shooting for Ceres PD was in January 2016.
