Northern California cops run Marine marathon for fallen officers

Officers from across Northern California took part in a Marine Corps Marathon in full uniform to honor the memory of fallen officers.

Officers from across Northern California took part in a Marine Corps Marathon in full uniform to honor the memory of fallen officers.

The 26.2-mile run required the officers to run with as much as 25 pounds of equipment, including their Kevlar vests, boots and duty belts.

As the officers ran the repeated the mantra “Our pain only lasts a few hours, the pain felt by the families of the fallen lasts forever.”

Officers from Folsom, Turlock, Tracy police departments, along with Cook, Stanislaus and many other county sheriff’s departments participated in the run.

Detective Sean Dodge of Modesto Police Department came up with the idea.

“I wanted to find a way on a national level, that we could the memory of those men and women who sacrificed their lives for their department, Dodge said.
